FAQ
How do I convert JXL to WebP?
Drop your .jxl files onto the box above with WebP selected, set the quality, and download the results individually or as a ZIP.
Why does WebP output fail in my browser?
WebP encoding depends on the browser. Chrome, Edge and Firefox can create WebP files; some Safari versions cannot. If WebP fails, choose JPG or PNG, or use another browser.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Your .jxl files are decoded and converted inside your browser on your own device. They are never uploaded.
Does Chrome support JXL?
Yes, Chrome 155 added JPEG XL decoding (announced October 2026), and Firefox 157 and Safari 17 or later can display JXL too. Viewing a JXL in the browser is not the same as being able to use it everywhere: if you save such an image you may get a .jxl file, which you can convert to JPG here.
Is EXIF metadata (date, camera, location) kept?
Not in this version. The converted file contains the image pixels only; EXIF and ICC color profile data are not copied, and colors are converted to standard sRGB.
Can it restore the original JPEG from a JXL?
Some JXL files were made by losslessly recompressing a JPEG and still contain the data to rebuild the original JPEG exactly. The converter detects these files and marks them; exact byte-for-byte restoration is planned. For now, every file is re-encoded from its pixels.
Is there a file size or number limit?
There is no fixed limit and it is free. Very large images or very large batches are limited only by your device memory; files are processed one at a time to keep phones responsive.
